Our eyes and brain contain non-visual photoreceptor proteins (Opsin 5 and Opsin 3-related molecules). Using a variety of animal models, we are clarifying the function of these opsin-expressing cells at the molecular level. We also aim to elucidate the pathogenesis of congenital diseases by generating animal and cell models of diseases, and to develop therapies for intractable diseases.
