The Department of Infectious Diseases was newly established in April 2026 with the purpose of integrating basic bacteriology and clinical infectious disease practice to generate novel insights and value within the field. Our mission is to cultivate physician-scientists and specialized clinicians equipped to confront the infectious diseases that threaten humanity. Guided by this, our vision is to establish and continually advance Okayama University as the premier infectious disease research center in Japan.
In our research endeavors, we focus on genomic analysis of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), Data Science, and the clinical application of Digital Technologies (DX). Furthermore, we are dedicated to the Research and Development of preventive and therapeutic strategies for a wide variety of infectious diseases, contributing to the realization of a One Health approach.
In the realm of education, we promote a seamless curriculum within the horizontally and vertically integrated framework of the medical school. We are committed to fostering healthcare professionals with highly practical clinical acumen, as well as training infectious disease specialists capable of delivering cross-disciplinary clinical decisions.
Beyond the university, we actively lead comprehensive regional Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) initiatives and are building robust preparedness systems to respond effectively to public health emergencies, including emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases.
