The number of antibiotic-resistant bacteria is increasing, and it is necessary to develop new therapeutic agents for infectious diseases. To make a new drug, it is necessary to infect experimental animals with bacteria and understand the molecular mechanism of infection. Experimental animals such as mice have ethical and cost issues, making it difficult to carry out multiple infection experiments. Silkworm, a lepidopteran insect, has fewer of these problems and is susceptible to human pathogenic bacteria. We are conducting research with the aim of creating new drugs for infectious diseases using the silkworm as an infection model animal.
